Illustration for Swedish Brand Magazine on environment and power. The illustration goes together with Dario Oropallo’s story of a defunct Italian industry, Italsider. As the text speaks about corruption and silence, two dramatically common features of past and present politics, I drew a mouth that is in the process of being strangled into silence, with a quote from the original text: “Il blocco del silenzio” (“the wall (the ‘block’) of silence“).
In Italian the word “omertà”, not possible to translate in English or Swedish, exists to indicate practices of silence in the context of crime and corruption. I wished to highlight silence as one of the main components that make corruption possible, as well as a consequence of it.
The illustration is made digitally and printed with 3 Pantone inks.
